Our mission is to advance public understanding of the ancient Roman world through rigorous research and hands-on experimental archaeology. As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to preserving and interpreting the lived experiences of Roman military, civilian, and material culture by grounding our work in primary sources, archaeological evidence, and scholarly study. Through public education, accessible programming, and disciplined experimentation, we strive to serve our communities in the mid-Atlantic region by bringing history to life with integrity, accuracy, and intellectual responsibility.

Legio XIIII GMV Cohort II is more than a Roman living history group, it’s a community of people who enjoy history, craftsmanship, and bringing the ancient world to life! Whether you’re a seasoned reenactor, or have never attended an event before, we will help you learn at your own pace. We provide a welcoming atmosphere with mentorship, loaner gear, and more much more. In Legio XIIII GMV Cohort II there’s a place for anyone with an interest in Roman history!

Why People Join us:

  3. one-on-one mentoring from experienced members

  4. Learn authentic Roman military and civilian life through hands on experiences

  5. Build practical skills such as sewing, leatherworking, woodworking, cooking, blacksmithing and historical research.

  6. Attend educational events, museums, and historic sites throughout the Mid-Atlantic and beyond

  7. Families and civilians are welcome, there are roles for everyone!

  8. Participate as your schedule allows, there’s no attendance quotas.

  9. Help inspire thousands of visitors each year by making history engaging, interactive, and accessible.
